This documentation is primarily intended for setting up an EMC facility to facilitate testing to automotive standards, rather than commercial, military, or other standards. Much of this information is based on my experience setting up the ARRIVAL EMC Facilities, which I continued to work on at Fortescue Zero.
As well as the Arrival/Fortescue Zero EMC Facilities, I did some work for the new JLR EMC test facility at Gaydon in the UK. In addition to Automotive EMC work carried out with JLR (Jaguar Land Rover, Gaydon), ARRIVAL, and Fortescue Zero, I have also performed EMC work at TATA Consultancy Services. My non-automotive EMC experience is with CASS Industries. I have also been a customer representative at EMC test facilities, including Unit 3 Compliance, ZF (Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen), Applus+ 3C, Compliance Engineering, and MIRA.
Most of my Automotive EMC experience is at the Component Level; I have very little whole vehicle, or homologation level experience.

The two Request For Quotes above were both authored by me and sent to multiple vendors for quoting on. The solutions mentioned in the rest of these pages are my own opinion.
The Jaguar Land Rover facility was completed after I moved from JLR to ARRIVAL. So I have not worked in that facility.
Standards
One of the first questions you need to resolve is what standards you will need to be working with, and also, importantly, which standards your customers require.
JLR, for example, requires you to work to JLR-EMC-CS v1.0 Amendment 4 (mirror) 2015-02-25. This standard is derived from an old version of the FMC (Ford Motor Company) standard, either EMC_CS_2009 rev1 (2010-02-11) or FMC 1278 (2016-10-07). The FMC 1278 standard is currently at Rev 4 (2021-10-15); however, after Rev 2, it is no longer available for public download.
If you work with automotive OEMs, you will find that a lot of their EMC Standards are derived from the work carried out by the FMC EMC team.
