Ian Hughes’ 3D-printed files for K9 also include files to create internal components that fit under the side featuring the ‘K·9’ logo. (Yes, I have used an Interpunct.) The design features two panels held in place with 10 mm diameter magnets.
Unfortunately, Ian does not include any colour information in his renders, which means that you need to find your reference images. A list of episodes featuring K9 is also available on the Timeline page.

I want to know what colours to paint the K9 internals. There are some reference images from the School Reunion episode that show the K9 prop’s panel and the associated accessories.

I have also managed to track down this concept art drawing

The colours of the K9 internals appear to be mostly dirty brasses and coppers, with wires and what appear to be optical fibres throughout the internals. I don’t remember them lighting up, but I’m sure I can add LEDs to the inner panel.
Extra addition
In addition to the non-functional panel, I will be adding two microswitches to detect if the panels are in situ or if one or more of them have been removed (And to disable LED lighting effects). I will need to fabricate brackets for these switches once I have an idea of whether there is a risk of obstruction with the panels, and I will need to ensure they blend in seamlessly.
There is also a 14-pin military-style connector being fitted inside the first panel to allow for an Ethernet connection, power, and four signal cables to be connected to K9 when it is on the desk and needs to be programmed or the battery to be recharged.
